Home and Yard Calculator works out how much to buy before a trip to the store or a call to the supplier: cubic yards of gravel, mulch and concrete, boxes of tile and flooring, gallons of paint, rolls of wallpaper, fence posts and bags of soil.

Every calculator shows how its answer is worked out on the same page. The geometry is exact; where a figure depends on a product, such as what a bag of concrete yields or what a cubic yard of gravel weighs, the page says where the number comes from and lets you enter your own.

How the calculators are checked

Each calculator's formulas are covered by automated tests that include worked examples and an independent cross-check implementation, and the method is explained on every tool page. If you find a wrong answer, please tell us.
